If you’ve been following along with me on Instagram stories then you likely know that I have been doing quite a bit of travel lately. I actually just got back from a trip to Aspen (which is the dreamiest destination to visit during this time of year— more to come on that front soon.)
I also have a trip to Paris on the horizon so I’ve had travel outfits on my mind a lot as of late!
I feel like fall marks the start of a busy travel season for so many people. Between autumn trips and upcoming holiday vacations, a lot of us will be spending a good chunk of time in airports and on airplanes.
If there’s one thing I need for a successful day of travel, it’s a comfortable outfit. What you wear on a long travel day is crucial to the overall experience. Let’s face it — no one wants to be stuck on a plane in restrictive jeans or in an outfit that leaves you feeling too hot or cold.
Planning your travel outfits ahead of time is the key to ensuring that you have a smooth and comfy day. Below, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite looks and the best travel outfits for fall. Bon voyage!
If there’s one outfit you use as inspo from this roundup, this should be it! I purchased this cashmere set during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and have worn it numerous times since. It is just as comfortable as I expected and I appreciate that while it’s forgiving and stretchy, it’s also flattering.
It comes in this dark brown hue as well as beige and black, but I will worn you that it often sells out (and gets restocked!) I styled it here in the beginning of fall with ballet flats and a lightweight trench coat. You could also go for a more layered look by opting for a wool coat and a scarf!
It’s no secret that chocolate brown is having a major moment in the spotlight this fall! I’ve fully invested in the trend and think this combo captures the look perfectly.
I’ve been a long time fan of Splendid’s loungewear finds, and I particularly love their collabs with Cella Jane. Both pieces here are from their most recent collection and I’m totally obsessed!
This knit sweater originally reeled me in because of the pretty gold button detailing. It adds such unexpected charm and dresses things up a bit. To keep things simple, I styled it with matching sweater pants (which will be on repeat wear come winter!)
I know that jeans aren’t typically the first bottoms of choice on a travel day, but sometimes they’re just the most practical. Plus, if you have somewhere to be straight from the airport, it makes sense to wear something that feels a bit more polished.
If I had to suggest one pair of denim to wear in flight, these would be it! They have a stretchy fit that somehow still holds you in (and leaves you with a flat belly.) They also score bonus points for making your booty look perky!
Up top, go with a basic like a white t-shirt or sweater. If you need an extra layer, this sherpa jacket would be the perfect choice!
I know what you’re thinking: Traveling in all white?
Sure, it’s risky, but if you can manage to keep your Americano in your coffee cup, the result of an all white look is highly chic. This option is also ideal for car travel!
If it still feels too bold, swap the pants for a pair of leggings or trousers.
Oh, and if you tend to get chilly while traveling, this oversized scarf is a must-have. You can style it various ways and utilize it as a blanket too!
This is another option for those of you who want to (or have to) wear denim while traveling. These jeans are just as comfy as the ones above, and they’re a classic staple to have in your wardrobe for day to day wear.
Again, I’d keep things simple by going with a white tee and a light layer, like this car coat. As far as shoes go, loafers offer a nice switch up from sneakers or boots — and they look more polished and professional!
p.s. If you’re on the hunt for a carry-on bag that also looks stylish, this pick is for you. It’s super roomy and easy to tote around!
If you’re sensing a theme here, it’s because there really isn’t a better option for a fall travel outfit than a matching set. This Polo Ralph Lauren duo is another option that looks high-end while remaining practical and comfy for a day filled with travel.
When it comes to layering, I’ve reached for this exact trench coat time and time again. It’s lightweight, easy to pack (or fold in the overhead compartment), and it’s timeless!
I was introduced to Frank & Eileen travel sets a while back and they’re still one of my favorite brands for quality, on-the-go outfits. Frank & Eileen is a slow fashion company that combines the finest raw materials that are ethically and sustainability sourced — a major win in my book!
This set features an oversized hoodie which has side slits, making it super easy to tuck into your pants. The sweatpants are super comfy and have tons of pockets. You could wear this alone or layer it with a long cardigan.
